Don't Politicise Rescue Effort, Says Muhyiddin
MUAR, Feb 4 (Bernama) -- Deputy Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin has urged all quarters not to politicise the government's contingency plan to rescue about 11,000 Malaysian students from strife-torn Egypt.

He said the rescue effort demanded painstaking planning as the Egyptian government was in disarray and had to deal with appeals from over 40 countries, including Malaysia, which scrambled to send planes to fly out their citizens out of Cairo.

"We want to take action as quickly as we can but are bogged down by rules not only in Egypt but also in Saudi Arabia where we sought permission to shelter our children.

"Although Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Abdul Razak was granted permission by the Saudi Arabian government, it's not easy to implement the contingency plan as adequate logistics are required," he added.

Speaking to reporters after visiting flood victims from the Jorak state constituency at Sekolah Kebangsaan Sungai Raya, Bukit Pasir here Friday, he said all Malaysia citizens in Egypt were safe.

"They have enough food supply and only the evacuation process will take a bit more time," he said, adding that the process was impeded by a curfew imposed by the authority.

"I hope all parties would appreciate the government's effort and not politicise it. I know that some opposition leaders claimed that we are slow and so forth," he added.

Jangan Politikkan Usaha Kerajaan Selamatkan Rakyat Malaysia Di Mesir - Muhyiddin
