PRESS RELEASE: RESIGNATION OF PRESIDENT HOSNI MUBARAK
Malaysia welcomes the decision by President Hosni Mubarak to resign in deference to the wishes of the people of Egypt. Malaysia also welcomes the handing over of power to the Supreme Council of the Armed Forces, which should lead to a peaceful transition to democracy and stability in Egypt.
The Embassy of Malaysia in Cairo is continuously monitoring the situation in Egypt.
The remaining Malaysians in Egypt are safe. As of today (12 February 2011), the total balance of Malaysians waiting to be transported from Jeddah to Malaysia are 1,584. It is expected that the evacuation process of the last group of 574 will be completed by Monday, 14 February 2011.
