JEDDAH, Feb 9 – The Ops Pyramid to airlift Malaysian students out Egpyt was a huge success but for a member of the Royal Air Force (RMAF) in the operation, it was also a harbinger of sad news as his beloved wife died in a road accident in Putrajaya on Monday.
Engineering Warant Officer 1 Alias Karman, 42, received news that his wife Shukriah Abdullah was killed in the accident while one of his children is in coma.
Ops Pyramid deputy head of mission Col Dzulkarnain Ahmad told Malaysian journalists here today that Alias, of RMAF’s 20th Squadron 20 based in Subang, was rushed home immediately on receiving the news.
“We extend our gratitude to the Malaysian Consul’s office here for helping us sent Alias home quickly to make funeral arrangements,” he said.
Meanwhile, 141 Malaysian Armed Forces personnel participating in the operation received advanced appreciation for their efforts from the Ministry of Defence as they were given the opportunity to perform the umrah (minor haj).
They left for Mecca in three buses provided by Lembaga Tabung Haji and on hand to sent them off was Kelab Putra 1 Malaysia president Datuk Abdul Azeez Abdul Rahim.
